Not much going on....

As evident in the last couple of posts, I really don't have much going on that is well.... "post-worthy". Just the normal everyday things have been happening; work, school, flying, paying bills, cleaning up cat puke, Costco, works some more, give a Primary lesson to a bunch of contraceptive inspirations, and wrestling 3 horses to get back into there corral (pictures will come later when I feel less like a slug). Things have just been rather boring... 

Kerby is still flying everyday trying to finish up these last few licenses and doing the online college thing. I am just working and now starting in CT trying to get cross-trained. We went to Haven for Valentines Day and that was fun. Franklin and Shadow are lazy and get a little gayer each day. The 'Jessica wants a English Bulldog instead of a Baby' Foundation has not reached its financial goal so that is not happening anytime soon. It keeps snowing in Diamond Valley and it just makes me want to move even more. Kerby and I got new shoes... so that was pretty cool. We officially have a truck so we don't have to borrow the FJ Cruiser anymore from my Mom to get home, which is good. And I cut my hair.

So other than that we are just hanging out.... Any good ideas on fun/cheap vacations in November?? We are already planning our Anniversary trip :) I have made it tradition that we go somewhere fun each year so help me out!! We really want to go on a cruise cause we've never been on one or we want to take a train ride out back east somewhere???

Baked in the Ovens of Friendship

One of my favorite shows on MTV that has recently come to an end was "Rob & Big". I LOVE that show!! It seriuosly is the funnest show that they have ever done and I wish it would come back on in some new form where Big can just show up for the shananigans that Rob does. Its just that great!! Anywho one of the episodes Rob & Big are out at the grocery store and they come across a really strange cereal and decide that they need to be on the cover cause they are "Good Friends" and inter-racial. Well they end up not being on the cover but try to make there own by taking pictures and Rob takes it even a step further by making a cereal box.


Well Kerby and I happened to be at the local Wal-Mart and came across the same cereal that inspired there excapades :) We just thought it was hilareous and had to capture the moment!!

Happenings as of Late

The Internet has completely shut down up at the homestead and so Kerby and I are without and have been trying to cope with the absence of connection to the rest of the world. Therefore I have been unable to post about our adventures for a long time. To bring everyone up to speed...

Christmas was excellent, New Years has always been and will always be awkward and just a random holiday. I had to work the actual "day" of New Years Day and it was rather boring. But it has been decided in the Leany home that this new year is going to be great and we have a theme/motto that we have adopted-

2009: Year of the Leanys!!!

We are just hoping for a lot of new and fun things to happen this year and that last year (bad...) will be taken as a stepping stone and a learning experience. Believe me 2008 was good, lots of great things happened and were accomplished. (I graduated, Kerby got back into school, Kerby got into a better school, I got a GREAT job, went to Denver and a BRONCOS game, etc. etc. etc.) But this year is all about big steps :)

I am currently, as of today, retired from the full time mammography world and now am returning to only one day a week of torture. Kerby is still going strong with school and this week will be completing his Multi-Engine License and then starting his Certified Flight Instructor License. He has also been looking for a job because school is coming to an end and there is no CFI positions available. So PLEASE if anyone knows of a place where he can work just let me know, he's a hard worker and a great employee!! We are just chilling and having fun, waiting for "better times" so we can look into moving somewhere in town and get out of the wilderness :)

Winter Wonderland

I haven't been able to post with pictures for a while because of the above pictures. The snow in Diamond Valley has been out of control! There has been so much fall that it covered the satellite dish and the internet signal box, so basically we were cut off from everything (with the exception of phones) till now. I mean all together there has been over 25 inches fall within these couple of storms. Its funny cause its been all fun and games in St. George but just up the hill its been "ice hell". I think snow is way fun and its beautiful but when it comes to driving it is horrible, good thing my mom has the FJ Cruiser or some nights we wouldn't have made it home.

Christmas was really fun this year, we got a TV!!! We are really lucky to get it too, 3:00 am at Wal-Mart the day after Thanksgiving was totally worth it!!! Its awesome and makes Call of Duty: World at War look amazing. Plus we got great deals on Blue-Ray discs and they look pretty cool too. Don't think I'll be able to watch regular movies now, it looks way to good to go back. We got some other small stuff too but mostly it was all about the TV :)

It was hard day though, lots of places to go and lots of people to see. I think next year we're going to have to come up with a new plan cause driving around all day is not my idea of a perfect Christmas. Not that I don't like seeing everyone but its more fun to just hang out and relax.

Complainer

BREASTS.

I HATE breasts!!

I know, that sounds disturbing, disgusting, and just really weird but its true. I am a registered Mammographer and I hate breasts. I got my registry just recently and I was very happy about it; I get more money, become a more valuable employee and expand my modalities. Sweet right?? Well I was generally happy about my position within the breast/mammography/titty world, only performing mammos on Fridays and just doing general x-ray and cross training into CT on the other days I worked. Life was good.

But as it would seem, I couldn't be happy and content forever. I now have to deal with breasts and old women four days a week and I have to be happy about it. I work Tuesday through Friday as the full time mammo tech and will be doing said job till about the middle of January. I cannot completely complain about my situation; I do get more hours taking on this position and that is really great considering the "economic crisis". I would however fully enjoy this opportunity at hand if I were in fact working in x-ray or CT but no... boobs.

And you maybe wondering, 'Jessica, why did you register in mammo in the first place??' and the answer is simple. Gotta start somewhere... Mammo was open and I took the opportunity at hand. Don't get me wrong; I am SO thankful for my job, so grateful that I am still working, so blessed in the fact that I am full time, and so appreciative for all my opportunities. I would do this everyday if it meant I didn't have to go back to one of those crappy jobs that I use to work at.

But none the less, I have to deal with old breasts that feel like pancake batter in a plastic sandwich bag....

But even more thankfully, this will all eventually end and I will go back to the exciting world of trauma and blood. But for now I thought I'd share with you my horror and disgust.

Umm... Twilight???

So I have been bombarded by my mother, sister and sister-in-law to read the Twilight series for at least the last 4 or 5 months. I put it off because I really needed to study for my Mammography registry so I could pass the stupid thing. Well, after I passed I was told that I had to read them because the movie was coming out and pretty much my whole DeMille side (mom's side) of the family were going to go together and that I shouldn't be left out. So I read them... and honestly it was a cute story. Really simple and very cute but I can honestly say that I am not as taken with them as some seem to be. I enjoy a fresh new story and new characters but I don't know if I didn't take enough time to read them or put myself totally into the book (I read them in the car on the way to Denver, very distracted) as much as I usually do but I just thought that they were okay.

So then it was time for the movie to come out and us girls to take the trip to Vegas for the premiere. It was everyone!! All my cousins, there kids, my aunt, everyone. We had so much fun!!! We went to dinner and then arrived at the theater (the BEST theater EVER by the way...) at 9:00 pm, three hours early to wait :) Crazy girls!!

And I LOVED it!! I thought it was so great and so crappy at the same time. I loved that it was SO low budget and I loved all the stupid cheesy lines, I just loved it. On a serious note I do think that the actors were chosen very well, each one is actually perfect. Edward was perfect, Bella was perfect, love it! I'm excited to see how they do New Moon especially with a bigger budget. I think I even like the movie better than the books just because I love cinematic adventures and this one was tops :)

I do have to say though that what most people need to understand about movie making is that there is no possible way that they were going to fit the whole book into two hours, especially with the budget that they had. Granted I do think that alot of time was wasted with music and no one talking, they could have put something in there. But come on... its just a movie :)

Lets Go Broncos!!!!

For our ♥one year anniversary♥ Kerby and I went to Denver Colorado and we had a BLAST!!! Our trip began with a really really really long drive to our destination that I thought would never end... 11 hours in the car is a little too long. But when we were finally there the fun never stopped :) It all began with a totally awesome Denver Broncos game!!! It seriously was so fun, probably the funnest thing I've done in a really long time. It was both Kerby and mines first professional football game, so cool to do stuff together that we've both never done :)

The rest of the time that we were there we just hung out around the city, drove around alot, and just basically checked out as much as we could in the time that we had. Here are just a couple of pictures from the city.

Also, for those South Park fans, we were able to go to Casa Bonita!!! It was absolutely hilarious because it was exactly like the episode!! It really is awesome for little kids to go and hang out, totally a family restaurant but so funny!!

Death, Bugs, Rodeo, and One CRAZY Cat

So I haven't posted about all the little things going on in our lives cause really, there has been alot... After my appendix surgery I was kinda out of it to really realize what was all happening. And I know that the timeline within my posting doesn't match the timeline of actual events but who cares :)

For sure, I missed the Dixie Round-Up Rodeo. I mean I was there, in person. But not so much in mind. It was only 6 days after my surgery and I was still in some pain and still heavily medicated. Okay well a little too medicated now that I think about it in retrospect but at the time I felt horrible. I don't even want to post any pictures of the rodeo cause they; 1> are terrible because my camera is so freaking crappy 2> they really are of nothing cause while there I was so disoriented and confused that I didn't get any good ones even if they weren't blurry.

Then I had some tragedy in my life... Junior, our family pug, passed away on September 25. It was really hard to let Junior go, really hard for everyone actually. He was a really old dog and it was his time to go but its just hard when you've had something in your life for so long just for it to be gone. And other than him passing, it seemed to be like this passing away of a time of my life. I know its kinda lame but when our other dog, Pooch, died it seemed that it was kinda okay cause Junior was still there. But now that Junior is gone, that time of my life is gone. The time when my family was just my family, us siblings were all still at home and we were still somewhat small kids. But its all part of the journey and really, its almost nice to be starting this new part of my life when I am starting my own family. I just wish that pets could live forever like the cat in Hocus Pocus, but not die at the end of the movie. Oh and these pictures aren't of him dead, he's just sleeping :) I'm not that psycho.

This second death is very very humorous, well its humorous now.... During the hunt while Kerby's grand parents were on the mountain, we were responsible for feeding the 5 horses at the house. Well... one of the horses, Ricki, colicked and died. Yeah, it died. During the time that we were responsible for them, we killed it. Not really though, Ricki was fine in the morning when we fed and when we fed that night she just died. Kerby went out and noticed she was sick and 15 minutes later she killed over. It was really weird and it was really weird to see a dead animal... just laying out in a corral... in the rain... WEIRD

We put him underneath the laundry basket and just let him do his thing, he really is the weirdest cat I've ever been around.

Catalina Island

On September 30th Kerby was able to take me flying!! He had been planning to take me to Catalina Island in California for a while and we finally were able to go. I was so excited to be back in the plane again with him as the pilot. It is really amazing that he is a pilot and that he within a couple of hours we can be in a totally different place in the country.

We left St. George a little later than we wanted, taking off around noon. Its so cool to see St. George that high up. You litterally can see the whole town from one end to the other.

After flying over Las Vegas and entering Califonia, we stopped in the city of Corona at there airport to refuel and stretch our legs.

When we took off from Corona I knew it wouldn't be too long till we were over the ocean and on our way to the island. Then there in the distance was what seemed to be the end of it all. It was so hazy from the polution and nastiness of California that it was all a blur when you looked towards the horizon. The blue from the ocean and the blue from the sky seemed to blend together which made it a little disorienting. Luckily the island was there and soon we were on the ground on the tiny little island.

This is the only part of the trip I do not like. We arrived at the Catalina Airport too late to make the bus down to the town called Avalon. The last bus leaves the airport at 5:00 pm but doesn't come back.... :( So we were only able to visit the old airport and little cafe. But it was still really fun to fly over the town and see the sights.

As we left for our flight home, Kerby wanted to get a really good view of Avalon and what we missed out on. Avalon seriously looked so fun and I really want to go hang out there and really check it out. Kerby and I will definatly be heading back there to complete our little adventure to Catalina.
All and all it was a really fun trip and I was so glad that I got to go and spend some flight time with the hubs ♥

This commercial was voted the best European commercial of 2007. I cannot tell you how precisely this commercial descibes every reason Kerby and I are waiting to have kids. I hope you all enjoy!

What the appendectomy....

Yeah that's right, I got my stupid appendix removed. Randomly, and because I'm just so lucky, I had to go into surgery for the second time this year. It all started early Sunday morning around 4 am, I woke up with a stomach ache that was just NOT NORMAL. So after hoping for a miracle and ralphing a couple of times, I woke up Kerby around 8 am and headed for St. George. By the way, that drive from Diamond to the hospital was probably the longest drive ever!!!

Arriving at the hospital I got all registered and what not, sat naked (practically) on a horrible bed, had an IV started by a douche bag, finally got scanned at 11 am, and the verdict was my appendix. So I got admitted and then went into surgery around 4 or 5 pm. I had to stay in the hospital (against my will) that night and then the next day till about 2 pm when the surgeon finally showed up. What a joke!!

So far I'm not in a lot of pain, I just can't move around very well. It so miserable relying on everyone to do things for you and being unable to sit down without help. ITS RETARDED!!! After my gallbladder was removed I thought that this would be cake but being that the incisions were in a totally different spot and a lot closer to my hip joints, I can't really move. As of now its been 5 days since the surgery and I'm no where near how well I was recovered last time.

Sigh.... Oh well, I am hoping to be back at work by Wednesday of next week but who knows. The two things I have realized is that I have an amazing husband and family!!! Kerby has been the greatest guy taking care of me and cleaning up around the house. Plus now with him in school he's been really busy catching up and learning lots of new stuff. So hopefully there won't be anymore surgeries anytime soon and we can have a little bit of normalcy in our lives. I'm predicting that 2009 will be the year of the Leany's and lots of good things will be happening!!!

Oh!!! And by the way 'da-lod-did', its a pain medication, is the greatest thing in the world!! Fantastic!!

Some Fun Videos

Last month there was a really intense thunder and lightning storm and Kerby happened to get it on video. We were over at the Dastrups and it seemed to surround the whole house. I was a little freaked out :) but it was sweet!!!

I love this video!!! Kerby and Franklin were home one day just hanging out, they seem to always just play around and cause a raucous. Well Franklin manage to crawl inside Kerby's basketball shorts and somehow fall asleep :) Don't ask me why or how he managed to get comfortable enough to do that but Kerby had to capture the moment!!

This weekend Metallica released thier latest album, Death Magnetic, and its awesome. I just wanted to share my joy with everyone. Kerby and I are huge fans and were very excited.

YEAH!!!! I'm a PILOT again!!!

This is a really really long story but with the great news of it all coming to an end I decided that it needed to be told... So once upon a time Kerby went to flight school in Cedar City at National Pilot Academy (hereafter called NPA), everything was great and things couldn't have been better. He started in March of 2007 and soon became a Private Pilot in April 2007 and then received his Instrument Rating in June 2007. After which he began a "time building phase" of school where he spent everyday just gaining experience. When the time came that "time building" was over and Commercial training was to begin, that is where our story really begins. Kerby was scheduled to start his Commercial training somewhere around October 2007, the problem started out being that NPA only had one Commercial rated plane and there was in fact six or so other students in line in front of Kerby waiting to receive their training as well. So Kerby began to wait, and wait, and wait...

During this waiting the one plane had crashed in the hands of fellow students several times and we were running out of money and had just gotten married. So with the annoying call of bills needing to be paid, Kerby returned to work at Parts Plus. He decided to take a leave of absence from school until I was finished with school in March 2008 when I could officially provide for our new small family.

When March 2008 finally came Kerby was ready more than ever to begin school again, he realized one major problem; HE NEVER RECEIVED HIS LICENSES!!!!! Back in March 2007 when he took his tests his instructor told him that the FAA takes a really long time to process paperwork and it wasn't unusual for your license to take 6 months to reach you. Well in the mists of all that was happening we both completely forgot since he was flying under a temporary license. Well now that it had expired, Kerby called the FAA and was informed that there was an even bigger problem; the designated FAA examiner (Jonathan Ashment a.k.a. THE DEVIL) had in fact filed his paperwork wrong. He was recognized as a pilot but still in the student status because the problem had not yet been resolved. Kerby then contacted the examiner only to find out that he had been fired as an examiner and been allegedly "robbed" and there was no longer any paperwork.

So for 6 long months filled with complete and total frustration/despair/hatred/helplessness we called this examiner to beg and plead with him to file new paperwork. But when you are dealing with the biggest douche in the universe, you get nowhere. During this 6 months of nothing.... Kerby had found a new flight school called G&B Flight Academy here in St. George, we were very excited because things at NPA had become rather bad since Kerby left. (Mind you this whole time NPA hadn't helped at all with the license problem) This new school was professional and outstanding compared to what we had dealt with at NPA. We contacted G&B and told them our situation, within a matter of one week we had gotten everything ready for him to switch from the old to the new but still had not solved the license problem; mind you we had contacted every person imaginable to try and fix this problem.... So we thought....

Monday September 8 rolls around and we get a phone call from G&B, they tell us to come into the school and they'll help us figure out this whole fiasco. When we arrive at G&B I am expecting an older male, around 30 or 40, to be the one to help us figure out this major problem we've been having. But what we got was a 25ish guy that was just one of the random instructors there. I thought, Oh this is a waste of time, this guy is never going to figure this out. He's not going to be able to do anything that we haven't already done.

Within a matter of 45 minutes, OUR PROBLEM WAS SOLVED!!!!!! He fixed it. I don't know what he did, I don't know how he did it but he fixed it. Low and behold there was someone else that we hadn't been talking to that got around the old examiner and resolved the situation. Words do not describe how happy I am!! Kerby is now going to start flying again this week. After almost over a year he will be flying again!! Don't worry he'll be with an instructor so he'll be able to remember how to do it. (I'm a little worried) But he's back in school!!!

Now within 3 months Kerby will be done with all his training and will be able to make some money for all this hard work and stress. Then hopefully soon we will be able to move out of Diamond Valley and finally get a place in St. George!! Who knows?? All I know is that now life can move on and there is no more stress about a stupid piece of paper :)

Finally Pictures

Okay, so I know its been over a month but I thought I should post some more pictures from our camping adventure. Since we don't have really much going on besides trying to fight to get Kerby back into school, I thought these would be the next best thing.

On Cedar Mountain we took a sweet four wheeler ride out to some fun spots; Ice Cave and Cascade Falls. The Ice Cave is a cave that has ice and snow inside year round. Its crazy to drop down just a couple of feet into an open cave and have the temperature drop about 20 degrees. Then we headed over to Cascade Falls, a huge gyser that just springs right out the side of the mountain. With all the good rain fall and snow over the winter it was a serious shower of water.

Over at Fish Lake we spent a lot of time just hanging out and relaxing. We did take a trip though to Mytowgee... don't know about that spelling but okay. Its just some random road that takes you right to the top of the mountains on the south side of the lake. Its a sweet look out where you can kind of actually see the outline of the "fish" in Fish Lake.

But yeah, I've totally come to the conclusion that I need a new camera. Almost every single picture that I took came up out of focus and I really don't take very many pictures come to think of it because my camera is so crappy. Good thing Christmas is coming!!!

Labor Day

So as I sit here alone (except for only one other co-worker who seems to vanish for hours without notice or concern) eating a delicious cookie from Mesa View Regional Hospitals' fine cafeteria, I find myself pondering on dumb stuff you find to do on the internet and how much I really like chocolate milk. Its amazing, with 8 hours of total boredom and only 3 exams, you find out a lot about yourself. One of my favorite videos ever made on Homestar Runner was the simple and short clip about the strange and unusual event of Labor Day. This clip happens to be in the "Puppet Stuff" section of the "Toons" menu, if you find yourselves lost in the world that is Homestar...
But anyways back to being bored in a radiology department with only the emergency lights on and glare from my computer screen, I'm just a little freaked out. Not actually being scared but just that I'm here alone... not really. But when did I become an adult who works in a hospital, has a title and is sort of responsible for medically important stuff?? I still remember when I use to sing along with Ariel everyday under the sea and wish that I could be a mermaid too. What happened??
Well I guess that everything these "older" people have been telling me for years is true, time freaking flies and soon I'll be writing these same thoughts when I am 40 wondering, remember when I was just an x-ray tech and I worked in Mesquite???
Wow.... I am incredibly bored... I wonder what Kerby is doing....

Being bored and in the mood to post, I'm going to do my one hundred facts about Jessica :) Here it goes...

1. My middle name comes from my moms' middle name: Betty Jean
2. I love South Park and have every season on DVD
3. I have had the same set of friends since elementary school and we still keep in touch
4. I want 4 kids and Kerby wants 3
5. I was born in Henderson, NV on June 10, 1984
6. My favorite meal is breakfast
7. I hate TV, it wastes time
8. I love to quilt
9. I haven't scrapbooked since I got married (my stuff is in storage) and HATE it
10. I hate canned mushrooms
11. Disneyland is probably the best vacation hands down
12. I have all my future children names picked out and Kerby picked them out (one is still up for debate though...)
13. Kerby loves cats and I love dogs, hence.... we have a problem
14. My parents were born on the exact same day: May 10, 1961 (my dad was a couple hours earlier than my mom)
15. I love guns and going shooting

Camping Maniacs

So as most of you know we were able to take a camping trip from Saturday July 19 to Sunday July 27. That's right, a week long camping adventure!! It was so great to get away from everything LAME here in the real world. We had a blast!! The first five days were spent on Cedar Mountain on Kerby's families land. It was great to be free to do whatever; ride four-wheelers on random trails to fun places, take little car rides to look at all the fun little mountain towns, eat tons of delicious Dutch Oven food, play cards (my fav), read Harry Potter (again), and just chillax with my hubby.

When Thursday rolled around, we packed up once again and traveled a little more north to the annual Fish Lake trip with the Dastrup family. I think this one trip we will be taking every year till we're dead :) We go up once a year around Gerricks' Birthday and just have a blast with our friends. After being alone with each other for five days it was good to talk and hang out with a couple other people :) HAHA!!! We slept the whole time in a tent, but thnaks to our fabulous cots, we were able to stay sane. But all and all our trip was sweet, maybe just a little long, but still sweet. I think next year it'll be broken up into two weekends :)

whole lotta nothing

Well... The 4th of July was pretty un-eventful. The whole weekend of the holiday was pretty much spent up at the house constructing a fence around the 18 acres. It was a Cedar post fence that needed post holes dug and filled. Kerby spent the whole day working on the fence and we had only left later that day to have a BBQ at my mom's house. It was good to be with that family and hang out but Kerby was so tired from all the days work that we just went home so he could sleep.

And this is the nasty aftermath of the work done. Kerby was sunburnt in the most "farmer" way possible. On the arms from the shirt sleeve down and from the neck up :) He had a wicked blister on the back of his neck from the sun. Ouch...
